The Global Citizen Concert came out of believing that songs have an important role to play in social movements. Songs like ‘Imagine’, ‘We shall overcome’ ‘The times they are a changing’, ‘One’, and ‘We are the world’, all defined the social justice movements of a generation. These songs were the soundtracks that woke people up to global issues, made them care, and helped people feel connected.
Tiki Taane, Jamie McDell, Seth Haapu and Aaron Tokona of AhoriBuzz wrote songs just for Global Citizen. And I was very lucky to be a part of this amazing project. Me, Krissy Dwyer from Dwyer Productions and Georgia Schofield were the film crew for the video of an incredible song ‘Falling Angels’ from Tiki Taane Tikidub Production Ria Hall, Jamie Maitreya Greenslade, Aaron Tokona, Jolyon Mulholland and the Auckland Gospel Choir. This wonderful film was recorded at Roundhead Studios New Zealand and mastered at York Street Studio.
This was my first project coming to New Zealand and it was by far the most exciting and pleasant one. I’ve met so many talented musicians, inspiring and like-minded people that were there for a good and humbling cause. The best part of this experience was coming together with artists, charity partners, and Global Citizens at the concert as well!
At the end of the night charity partners came together arm-in-arm to launch Live Below the Line 2013. This campaign changes the way people think about the world’s poor by challenging people to live on $2.25 a day for 5 days – the reality for the 1.2 billion people who live in extreme poverty.
Thank you all for welcoming me to your team and helping me feel like at home, even though I just moved to the other side of the world! It was fun and just pure joy to be a part of this incredible movement! Special thanks from my side to executive producer Ella Rose, Krissy, and Georgia.
