Audrey Hepburn in colors

Think of class, elegance, grace and style… Who pops into your mind? Audrey Hepburn of course. She is the woman that many still look up to, especially in a fashion sense. What was so special about her, she was so simple? Exactly!

Audrey never liked things to be complicated, including fashion and “less is more” was her key belief. Sometimes we all get a bit over our heads with style/fashion and put on too much just to be noticed or to prove a point. Audrey is the proof that there is no need to be swayed by trends when you’re already certain of your personal style. Her match with Givenchy was a reflection of her preference for simple clothing and even today their clothing is known for its elegance, simplicity, and line.

The key reason that this icon has remained in our memory to this day is because she stayed with her look all her life once she found it and didn’t reinvent herself every season. She knew exactly what looked good on her, what she has to hide and what she should show off. She used fashion as a tool to complement her looks, rather than letting fashion use her. Sometimes its best to stick with the classics and just shake it up with a dash of color.

What I loved most about Audrey were the super chic flats. Initially she wanted to be a professional ballerina, but the circumstances prevented her from achieving this dream. Yet we saw her daily wear still chasing it, with adding ballet flats to her style. When Audrey slips out of her heels and into a pair of flats in her most known movie Roman Holiday, we can only assume that they symbolize her escape from the confines of being a princess or the swiftest means of freedom from societies stuffy etiquette.
